Education & Training
Dr. Eric Carniol is not only an accomplished medical professional but also an innovator, author, devoted husband, and proud father. He values collaboration with his patients, offering comprehensive care to address both their outer beauty and self-confidence. Born and raised in the Summit community, Dr. Carniol has deep roots in the area. He embarked on his academic journey at Boston University, where he successfully completed the combined BA/MD program and MD/MBA program with high honors and entrance into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.
Dr. Carniol then pursued his Head and Neck Surgery training, including his Chief Resident year, at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He received awards for academic excellence and research pursuits.
Dr. Carniol then completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Carniol received multiple awards from the university for his research and dedication to the field of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Carniol scored in the top few percentile among national and international test takers on the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) board examination. During and following his fellowship, he pursued additional training in hair restoration and hair transplant surgery, developing expertise in the treatment of hair loss. Dr. Carniol went on to obtain his second board certification in Facial Plastic Surgery.
The Path Home
After completing his training, Dr. Eric Carniol established his practice in Massachusetts, serving as the Chief of Otolaryngology and Facial Plastic Surgery at Milford Regional Medical Center. Dr. Carniol then moved back to New Jersey to join Carniol Plastic Surgery and be closer to family.
He has been published in the top research journals of Facial Plastic Surgery as well as Head and Neck Surgery. He loves to teach and was nominated for teaching awards while in New Jersey and Toronto, Canada. Dr. Carniol was recognized as the leading physician in newborn ear deformity correction in the state of New Jersey and is the leading physician in NJ for both EarWell and EarBuddies Newborn Ear correction.
In addition to his exceptional expertise, it is essential to emphasize that Dr. Carniol embodies the qualities of a compassionate and caring physician. Known for his integrity, meticulousness, genuine concern, and kindness, he ensures that each patient receives the highest level of personalized care. He has been recognized by his physician colleagues as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Carniol finds immense joy in his role as a loving husband and proud father. He and his wife, Dr. Aliza Alter Carniol, are blessed with three wonderful boys and share their home with their beloved beagle, Charlie.
Dr. Carniol is currently accepting new patients for cosmetic consultations, as well as for functional issues related to nose/sinus problems, skin cancer reconstruction, and ear deformities. He participates in several insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Medicare, and Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Dr. Eric Carniol works with many different offices throughout the state to provide patients with outstanding care. Several dermatology offices and Mohs surgeons from all over New Jersey refer to Dr. Carniol for reconstructive surgery and for cosmetic procedures. They know that Dr. Carniol works hard to maximize patient outcomes!
Many pediatricians, pediatric urgent cares, and primary care offices refer to Dr. Carniol for emergency procedures. Dr. Carniol and the amazing team work hard to fit patients in that need emergency appointments. Dr. Carniol will even go to the urgent care centers to sew up children at night (laceration repair).
Medical Research
Dr. Eric Carniol continues to publish in peer-reviewed journals and top medical textbooks in the fields of facial plastic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.
In fact, Dr. Carniol works with his amazing staff to publish based on their clinical results as well as analyzing current medical literature. Dr. Carniol lectures and teaches the next generation residents from Rutgers Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Goryeb Children’s Hospital, and Overlook Medical Center.
