Facial balance and facial harmony are about restoring proportions. For many, a small chin is an area of concern. A small chin may make a nose look big, or bigger, than it really is. A chin implant (mentoplasty) can add projection to the area, improving the nose-chin proportions and even providing some “lift” to the neck area! Cheek implants can provide a permanent solution for more volume. Temple hollows can be permanently improved in a single setting with beautiful soft temple implant. Implants do not require upkeep like dermal fillers do, and the full effect can be achieved in 1 appointment (1 procedure with 1 recovery and 1 set of risks, instead of many procedures requiring upkeep over many months and years). Our skilled surgeons, Dr. Eric Carniol and Dr. Paul Carniol, offer advanced techniques for chin, cheek, and temple implants, ensuring excellent results and minimal scarring.
Chin Implant With Rhinoplasty, Restoring a Balanced Profile
A chin implant is a firm implant that sits on top of the bone of the chin, deep to the skin and muscle. The implant is not visible, does not move, and never needs “refilling.” Many patients interested in rhinoplasty will benefit from a chin implant at the same time, so Dr. Carniol will show you what one treatment vs the other, or a combination will do for your look!
Chin implant can be combined with neck liposuction or neck lift to further define the jawline. Chin implants can be placed in the office or in the operating room depending on patient comfort or if combined with other procedures. Patients take Tylenol or Motrin if needed during recovery and can return to work in a few days.

Chin and Facial Implant Techniques
Facial implants by Dr. Carniol are made from silicone. The material is solid and not moldable. Unlike breast implants that have been associated with various illnesses, facial implants do not have that association. The facial implant technology has been used for many decades with excellent track records for longevity and durability.
Even as patients will age, the implant will maintain improved prominence of the cheeks, temples, and chin.
Many patients wonder do they want a chin implant (mentoplasty) or genioplasty. A chin implant is an implant inserted onto the chin bone using a small incision under the chin where many people have a scar from childhood. Genioplasty is a surgical procedure in which the jaw bone (mandible) is cut and the pieces of the mandible are then plated together to form an improved shape.
For Dr. Carniol, genioplasty is reserved for those patients who want a smaller jaw, such as those seeking gender-affirming surgery.
After numbing is put in the chin area, a small incision is made under the chin. From there, a small pocket is made on the front of the chin bone. The implant is then slipped into place. The implant is stitched into place. The skin under the chin is stitched. These stitches are removed in a few days.
Chin implant surgery takes about 1 hour. If performed awake, patients will often take an anti-anxiety pill that takes some time to work. Then with numbing and the surgery, it is about 1 hour. For patients that take this pill or have the procedure performed in the operating room, a driver is required. Otherwise, patients can even drive themselves home.
