Scar Treatment

Summit NJ Scar Treatment

Scars carry such emotional weight. Whether it is from an accident, a dog bite, acne, or surgery, scars can carry with them tough memories. Improving a scar’s appearance can help us heal both the physical and the emotional baggage as well.

Scar revision depends on the number, locations, and overall appearance. (Click here to go to Acne Scar page, which is separate). Laser resurfacing, laser vessel reduction, scar revision, fat grafting, subcision, filler therapy, radiofrequency microneedling, and topical treatments are just some of the treatments available. At times, a combination of procedures will give the best improvement.

Early Scar Treatment Is Best

Younger scars respond better to treatment. Ideally, treatment of scars can be started during the initial first few weeks! Laser treatments can help to reduce a scar that is forming before it matures. Lasers stimulate heat shock proteins, which help shrink scars. Lasers also can help with redness of scars. Traumatic Scar Treatment

Trauma occurs, falling at home, on a bicycle, or on vacation. These typically have been fixed in the emergency room or urgent care. However, healing can be unpredictable. Sometimes, these scars can be depressed. Sometimes, the nearby landmarks (the eyebrows, nose, lips, or ears) can be misshapen as a result. Sometimes, these scars grow thick and bulky.

Scar revision may be excellent for these issues and early intervention is recommended. We see patients from Millburn, Westfield, Warren, Springfield, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, and many other nearby towns to improve their scars. After seeing your scar, we can make a plan for what treatment(s) may be best for you.

Depressed Scar Treatment

Depressed scar therapy involves improving the contour of a scar. The sunken scar leads to a shadows that are noticeable. Options include scar revision, filler therapy, platelet-rich fibrin, fat grafting, subcision, and laser resurfacing. Scar subcision involves a small needle to break up the deep scar. Many scars can then be helped with injection of saline, platelet-rich fibrin, fat injection, or dermal fillers. Fillers include Revanesse Versa, Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus, and Restylane. Burn Scar Treatment

Burns anywhere on the body are traumatic. Not only do they cause a change in the appearance of the skin, but also scar contraction. Therefore, burn scars are complex to treat. Burn victims will often require multiple procedures to maximize the scar appearance. As well, important landmarks must be restored, such as the brow, lips, or nose. Hair transplant is also an option for eyebrow, scalp, or beard loss that have happened from a burn.

Hair Transplant Scars

Most hair transplant scars heal very well. However, not all do. Drs. Paul and Eric Carniol see patients from Union, Essex, Morris, Somerset, Bergen, and Hudson County for bad hair transplant scars. These scars may be candidate for surgical scar revision, hair transplant (yes, into the scar), or scalp micropigmentation. Surgical Scar Repair

Surgical scars can arise anywhere on the body. While most are planned, they do not always heal well. Surgical scars can become hypertrophic, keloid, depressed, uneven, or lumpy. These scars are best improved early in the healing process. However, late scarring can also be repaired. Keloid Removal and Hypertrophic Scar Reduction

Keloid scarring is the most feared issue for patients. Keloids can grow quite large and involve nearby tissue. Removal of keloids and hypertrophic scars is difficult as they can recur. Frequent visits after keloid surgery are also needed. Want your keloid removed? Call today 908-598-1400 to make your appointment or use our online form request a consultation..
