Over time lips appear to lose volume. This change is due to some actual loss of lip volume and loss of surrounding lip support. Furthermore many people desire fuller lips as their personal preference. For all of these people, lip augmentation can be a wonderful procedure, giving a natural, more balanced appearance. For most people, this lip augmentation is achieved using dermal fillers. Other materials that can be used include platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), and fat.
Lip Fillers and Lip Augmentation
Fillers that can be used in the lips include Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Revanesse Versa, Volbella, Vollure, Restylane, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane Kysse. Different fillers have different characteristics, and patients differ in their goals and anatomy. Before a lip treatment is performed, all patients have a consultation with Dr. Carniol at our office in Summit New Jersey to discuss your lip goals.
Lip Asymmetry
97% of us are asymmetric. Lip asymmetry varies between mild to marked. Lip augmentation can be performed to improve symmetry. If you are aware of any lip asymmetry that you would like addressed, be sure to discuss with Dr Carniol.
Dr. Paul Carniol and Dr. Eric Carniol are also experienced with revision of lip augmentation, to assist patients that have had a previous procedure elsewhere and are unhappy with their appearance.
Around the Mouth: More Than Just Fuller Lips
When Dr. Paul Carniol and Dr. Eric Carniol evaluate lips, they also evaluate the area around the lips for signs of aging. A downturn of the corners of the mouth can look sad. “Smoker’s lines,” pesky vertical wrinkles around the mouth even can occur in non-smokers. Deepening of the folds around the mouth can also give an older appearance as well as shortening of the chin. Thus, augmentation in these areas can improve a smile even without adding to the lips themselves. These areas can all be improved with various treatments, which may include filler, Botox, PRF, laser skin rejuvenation, or chin implant.
Big Lips vs Full Lips
Many patients are scared that lip fillers will mean “big lips.” At Carniol Plastic Surgery, we pride ourselves on obtaining natural results. For some patients, the lips only require a “lip boost,” a subtle enhancement to allow smooth lip appearance. For other lips, definition is needed as well as volume. Therefore, the technique is different, and we always strive to achieve the patient’s desired lip goals.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Take?
Lip filler treatments typically take about 30 minutes.
How Long Do Lip Fillers Last?
Lip fillers can last over a year. However, most patients return every 6 months for “boosts” to maintain their full lips.
